Eddie Dixon Centre
EDC has been open for over 30 years, meeting the day-to-day needs of a wide range of people, including the homeless, people living in boarding houses, isolated elderly pensioners and some folks who are just down on their luck.
Inspired by Jesus' vision of the Great Banquet, EDC is open to everyone on the street to come share in good company and a healthy meal. The Centre is open from 10am - 2pm Monday to Friday and currently serves about 50 lunches a day.
As well as basic needs services (washing, laundry, etc), EDC operates a free internet kiosk, assistance with filling out Centrelink forms and job applications, pastoral care, and a space for worship.
St Vincent's Hospital Outreach Services also base themselves in the EDC once a week to provide free medical services.
Other services that regularly base themselves at EDC include:
- Psychiatric care
- Podiatry (foot clinic)
- Centrelink outreach service
- Homeless Person's Legal Service
But Eddie Dixon Centre is about more than services. It's about community. A place to belong, where people know and love each other, warts and all.
That's what Jesus' kingdom vision is all about.
